Aboriginal Community Career Employment Services Society, commonly known as ACCESS is an Aboriginal Skills & Employment Training Strategy agreement holder with Service Canada. We provide training and employment opportunities for the Aboriginal Community in Metro Vancouver. Our Trades Department works with local colleges and employer partners to provide our trainees with the technical skills they need to enter into long term careers in construction and manufacturing.
ISM has partnered with ACCESS Trades since May 2011 and currently employs three Aboriginal apprentices. These apprentices are all graduates of ACCESS funded-BCIT funded Metal Fabrication programs. They are doing exceptionally well and learning new skills under the guidance of journey people and the shop foreman on site at ISM. The company is conscientious in their support of apprenticeship and these trainees are expected to complete the next level of their apprenticeship technical training during 2014.
The owner of ISM, Mario Scarpino, has made an ongoing commitment to hire Aboriginal apprentices and journey people. ISM is a company that not only invests in Aboriginal workers but in all of their employees through certified skills training on the job and the classroom. The company understands the need for a safe working environment and promotes safe work practices on their job sites. They provide employees with an excellent rate of pay and company benefits. The result of this investment is a highly skilled and loyal workforce that makes the company well positioned to expand as needed and take on new contracts.
