Management Team – Biographies

ISM’s Management Team consists of Steel Industry Specialists with Steel Construction pedigrees spanning three generations.

Mario Scarpino, President

Mario brings over 35 years Steel Fabrication experience to ISM.

Acting as President since 2002, he has continually led ISM’s growth initiatives and established a strong, viable business, for future generations to be part of. Mario’s “open-door” management style has been well received by all team members as he leads by example, through ISM’s Cores Values. Working cohesively as one unit towards the goal of ultimate customer satisfaction is accomplished through complete transparency, continuous dialogue, and HSE excellence within all departments, while being stewards within the local and Aboriginal communities.

In 2008, Mario was a proud nominee for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Anthony Arduini, General Manager

Bringing a unique leadership and management style to ISM, Anthony has experienced success within the British Columbia steel industry over the last two decades.

In 1996, Anthony joined AJ Forsyth (Russel Metals) taking on an entry-level sale role in Steel Distribution.  With positive experiences in Estimating, Sales & Marketing, and Business Development, he was soon promoted to the role of Manager – Structural Products (BC region).

In 2009, Anthony joined Marcon Metalfab in a Business Development role.  During his tenure he gained Steel and Rubber Manufacturing experience working directly within the Bridge & Infrastructure, Commercial, and Natural Resource Sectors (Oil, Gas, Mining).  Various roles included; Business Development, Estimating, Project Management, Procurement, and Quality Assurance.

In late 2013, combining his passion for structural steel and construction, Anthony joined the ISM family.  At ISM, Anthony has held roles in Business Development, Sales Management, and Marketing Management.

In November 2015, Anthony was promoted to the role of General Manager.

Clarence Losier, Field Manager

Clarence has dedicated his entire professional career within the construction industry. He spent the first decade in general construction, and over the last 20 years, he has been responsible for safely and efficiently leading erection teams constructing some of Vancouver’s most notable steel construction projects. Some marquee projects include; High Street Mall (Graham Construction), Tsawwassen Mills (Ledcor), and the Hamilton Transit Center (Bird Construction).

Clarence continues to display steel erection excellence while being well received and respected by team members, suppliers, sub-contractors, consultants, and customers. ISM’s erection team of ironworkers, welders, riggers, and crane operators continue to exceed expectations on any sized structural steel construction project.

Ron Leger, P.Tech GSC, Senior Estimator

Originally a native of Moncton, New Brunswick, Ron’s career has spanned nearly three decades directly within the steel industry. Ron brings in-depth knowledge in all facets of steel construction (estimating, project management, fabrication, detailing, and erection) to the ISM team. We expect Ron will be a definite asset to the ISM team today, and well into the future.

Richard Murphy, Project Manager

Over the last 10 years, Richard was the Drawing Office Supervisor responsible for ISM’s detailing activities. Richard is an experienced senior structural detailer with extensive working knowledge of Tekla Structures and AutoCAD. He ensured deadlines were met, project’s accuracy was audited, and ensured the completeness of project packages prior to release to downstream units.

Always well received by internal and external team members, coupled with a detail oriented work ethic, Richard was the perfect candidate to be promoted to Project Management in early 2014. Richard has managed numerous marquee projects in the lower mainland, such as; Hamilton Transit Center (Translink), Main Street Skytrain Station (Translink), Surrey Works Yard (City of Surrey), and the Surrey Biofuel Facility (City of Surrey).

Rezwan Vaghari, Detailing Manager

Rezwan brings almost 20 years’ experience in various disciplines in Steel Construction. He originally began as a Steel Detailer, but his keen Detailing skills and strong attention to detail enabled him to become a Checker, and Detailing Manager soon after. Rezwan has also worked as a Project Manager collaborating on high-profile mega-projects throughout North America in the Heavy Industrial (Oil + Gas) and Commercial sectors. In addition, Rezwan has experience as the Operations Manager for a Steel Fabrication firm. Overall, Rezwan is a valuable member of the ISM team who ensures the ISM Steel Detailing Team meets project deadlines, remains within budget, and exceeds customers’ overall expectations.

Wayne Shaw, Shop Manager

For over 24 years, Wayne has excelled in all facets of Steel Fabrication production and shop management. Wayne has a dynamic skill set with direct experiences as a Steel Fabricator, CNC Machine Operator and Technician, Management Representative for Health & Safety, with additional responsibilities in Maintenance and Purchasing. With his expert hands-on ability working with world-class CNC Steel Processing equipment such as Ficep and Peddinghaus, his technical ability is complimented with his success preparing for ISO9000 inspection.

Currently, Wayne is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the ISM Fabrication and CNC Processing Teams. His strong work ethic and positive attitude enable ISM to meet deadlines and continuously manufacture high-quality steel components, on time and on budget.
